Investigating student engagement with intentional content: An exploratory study of instructional videos

Abstract In recent years, flipped classrooms have become increasingly popular in higher education environments. tandem, there is an increasing interest engagement analytics and educational data mining to identify how students directly engage with content resources. The Flipped Learning Network (FLN) defines learning as a pedagogical approach which direct instruction moves from the group space individual space. resulting transformed into dynamic, interactive environment where instructors guide they apply concepts creatively subject matter. To effectively, incorporate four pillars their practice (F-L-I-P): Flexible Environment, Culture, Intentional Content Professional Educator. This study focuses primarily on one pillar of F-L-I-P i.e., Content, provided maximise classroom time, better utilise teaching methods for more student-centred, active experience. exploratory uses log-file generated by Management System (LMS) patterns, usage, 468 undergraduate students. Firstly, investigates what intentional effectively with, learning. Secondly, it usage frequency specific intervals, view identifying critical times semester perceived essential Thirdly, explores supplements other elements FLIP environment. Preliminary findings indicate discernible pattern amongst Engagement ad hoc; main behaviour fragmented, inconsistent, disjointed-overall are not engaging consistently. Additionally, distribution skewed towards start end semester, emphasising these intervals points. Of note, consistent adopted at beginning module, however less engaged all term progresses. Conversely, change student observed comes close, whereby positive patterns emerge -perhaps attributable pending examinations.
